Status

The status of the license record you are viewing.

The following status message may appear at the top of the License Archive detail:

Icon This call sign or a component(s) of this call sign is in termination pending status for failure to meet the buildout requirement.

If the license is in termination pending status for failure to meet the buildout requirement, the call sign status will display as "Term Pending." If one or more components (location or frequency) of a license are in termination pending status, an icon will appear next to the affected component(s) on the Locations or Frequencies tab(s).

NOTE: When searching in ULS License Archive, all statuses are selected by default. To narrow your search, clear All checkbox and select the desired status code(s).

STA -- Authorizations that the FCC granted for temporary use (i.e., circumstances requiring immediate or emergency use of facilities, temporary authority to install and/or operate new or modified equipment, etc.).

Demonstration -- Licenses used by licensees involved in the sale and/or marketing of radio equipment. Demonstration licenses may be used for purposes of demonstrating equipment to potential customers at trade shows or at other exhibitions, performing on site coverage studies for potential customers, or other uses as provided for under specific FCC rules.

Regular -- Regular authorizations, not applicable for Developmental, STA, or Demonstration.

Version

The license version that is displayed in the archive.

Market

The Cellular market area (CMA) number and the description of the market are displayed, along with the following data.

Cellular SID

The 15-bit binary System identification number used to identify a specific cellular system.

Dates

Grant Date

The date on which the license term (usually 10 years) begins. This date also sets the timetable for any applicable construction or coverage deadlines.

Expiration Date

The date after which a license ceases to be valid. For example, a license with a 12/1/2004 expiration is no longer valid at 12:00am on 12/2/2004. In most cases wireless licenses have a 10-year license term, and the expiration date is the 10-year anniversary date of the original license grant date.

Effective Date

The date on which a license becomes effective. In most cases this is the same as the Grant Date. For modifications, the original Grant Date of the license will remain the same, but the Effective Date will be the day the Modification becomes effective.

Cancellation Date

The date a call sign became inactive. The licensee may file an application to request cancellation. Licenses can become inactive when the license expires and is auto-deleted via the ULS auto-expiration program. The FCC can also choose to terminate the license in the case where a licensee fails to meet its debt obligations to the U.S. government with respect to an auctioned license or for non-construction or discontinuance of operations.

Last Action

The last date an action was taken on the license.

Five Year-Buildout Date

The time period from the initial grant of a license for a particular cellular market until 5-years later, during which time the licensee has exclusive authority to build-out (i.e., expand the system).

Control Points

The Control point number, address, and contact information for up to three control points will be displayed in this section. If there are more than three, click the All Control Points link to view other control points.

Licensee Information

FRN

The FCC Registration Number (FRN) is a unique 10-digit number that is assigned by the Commission Registration System (CORES) to an entity doing business with the FCC. The FCC will use the FRN to determine if all of an entity's fees have been paid for application filings requiring a fee.

To determine if an FRN is associated with an existing call sign, search by call sign in ULS License Search. The FRN will appear on the Search Results page. If there is no FRN associated with the call sign, select Register CORES/Call Sign on the ULS homepage. Search by FRN in ULS License Search to find all call signs registered to that FRN.

View Ownership Filing

Click this link to view Ownership Filing (Form 602) information in ULS for licensee's FRN.

Licensees may be identified at the sub-group or subsidiary level by means of a unique Sub-Group Identification Number (SGIN) that may be added as an extension of the TIN. The SGIN will enable licensees that share a common TIN because they are sub-groups or subsidiaries of a common "parent" to register separately in ULS.
